This is a collection of ghosts from the Sowl period (2005-2007). Sowl consisted of me and Sol (who is now one half of Noisebud), and we made electronica (sometimes quite experimental) in all it’s incarnations.
Click the pic, here or the download link on the player above to head over to my bandcamp page (might put it up on Soundcloud as well, but it’s hella slow at the moment) where you can download the whole thing for free. Feel free to share it with your friends!
I’ve had these tracks (and many more) just sitting on my harddrive without knowing what to do with them, so I finally decided to pick out a few and just throw em out there… They’re not doing anyone any good hidden away here.
I’ve not done any extra mixing or arranging on em, I decided to leave em as they were, for good or bad. This doesn’t mean they’re bad or in bad quality tho, just saying. Anyway, if someone really fancies one of the tracks I could of course fix it up a little, but at this point it’s not gonna happen. The exception are the two bonus tracks, which are pretty decently mixed and arranged (featuring Sol aka Sunflake on vocals).
Some of these have been uploaded on a couple sites under my other alias, Kvartersakuten, but since most know me as magOwl I figured I’d just put this out under that name. Plus that was the name I went under in Sowl.. so there you have it.
There’s a varied mix of styles on here, breakcore, lo-fi, old jungle ish, electronica, glitch, dubstep, techno and so on (no Hip-Hop tho, sorry kids, I’ll get that going later on this winter/spring). So hopefully there’s a little something something for everyone.
Ok I thought it was time for another round-up of Remix Competitions. This time around we got K-Os, Critical, Sirah & Don Goliath. You’ll find all the relevant info below (click the names to expand the info).. Cheers!
My man Morbski just put out his new album ‘Dyspnea’. I got one tune on there called ‘Breathe Hard’, you can hear it and more on his myspace (and on mine). Head over there and cop it, it’s good ish!
Put up the vid Morbski put together for “Breathe Hard”.
Finally got a beats page up on here. I’ll have around 5-10 beats on it at any given time, and I’ll try to switch em around as I make new ones since I don’t want to swamp the site with a couple of hundred beats heh. And I do have a soundclick page where more of em can be heard… and of course the ol’ myspace.
Y’all can click the image above or any of the links spread all over to check it out. I also enabled comments on that page so feel free to drop me a line (comments are moderated tho).
And on another note.. since I now run this page alone (…again) I’ll probably try and re-vamp it into more my page instead of a sowl one. I’ll keep the name tho.. Sowl Productions, I still like it and it works even if the name hold no real meaning anymore.
So maybe I’ll put up some remixes on a page and maybe even fire off a freebeat or two once in a while, but we’ll see about that hehe.
DougPark sent me a link to a video he put together of my old “Release Yo Delf” remix and I thought I’d put it up here as well. Thanks Doug! You can find him at his blog, his myspace or check out his vid collection.
Cheers!
The release of Brooklyn Academys album “Bored of Education” has been pushed up to September 2nd, so I’m afraid we’ll have to wait a little bit longer for the goodness. But those who wait for something good.. you know the saying hehe.
Well.. I produced one of the tunes on there, namely “Splash” which features Killah Priest. To be honest i remixed it, the original version of the track is on Brooklyn Ac’s myspace.. but that is not the one I made and won’t be on the album. Just thought I’d make that clear. I’m not gonna post any audio preview this time.. at least not right now. Maybe I’ll update this post with the tune later on, we’ll see. There are a couple of live vids if you expand the post tho. Oh and if you’re wondering about the cover.. I haven’t seen it yet myself.
Here’s an excerpt from a good writeup on BloomBlog, head over there to read the whole story and make sure you check the follow-up as well. One of the pics show a sneak peak of the cover.. not the best perhpas, but if you’re curious!
Pumpkinhead, Block McCloud and Mr. Metaphor all grew up in the same area of Park Slope, Brooklyn submerged in music and hip-hop culture. There had been random quasi-encounters here and there—Pumpkinhead and Met attending the same junior high school, Block hearing about Pumpkinhead’s battling abilities through a friend, etc.—but it wasn’t until an arranged freestyle battle between Block and Pump in 1995 that the two officially met. (Looking back, one will quickly concede defeat to the other but you’ll have to ask who beat who.) Around the same time, Block, Metaphor and producer Will Tell formed Word A’ Mouth, whose “Famous Last Words” unanimously became the highlight of the much-lauded Lyricist Lounge, Volume One. Finally in 1996, the trio came together to release classic underground singles like “Blind Fury” and “Russian Roulette” and a movement was born.
Other producers include Illmind, Will Tell, Snowgoons, Black Milk to name a few. Guests on the album are Ill Bill, Will Tell, Jean Grae, Killa Priest and more. Make sure y’all peep this and you can keep checking back here as well as I’ll try to keep updating if I find anything new and interesting to post.
Silent Knight’s new album “Restoration” has hit the shelves, and on it is my remix of his track “This Is It”. I did sort of and old school, disco’ish thing, complete with vocoder hook and all. You can grab the album from SK’s page on myspace at the moment, but I guess it’ll be more widely available soon. Y’all should also peep his Rawkus 50 drop “Hunger Strike v.2″, which is very nice as well. Y’all can check out the entire remix on my Myspace page.. but I’ve also included a snippet right here, just click play below.
Fresh off of the buzz of the Rawkus Records digital re-release of his debut, Silent Knight offers up a collection of rare unreleased tracks and previously released material, remixed by some of today’s finest beatsmiths! Restoration boasts a line up of what many would say is today’s best up and coming producers with contributions from the likes of Analogic, M-phazes, Rashid Hadee, E.Jones, DJ Vadim & Quincey Tones to name a few. Take a journey back to see where SK is going next!
