DJ Suva played two of my tracks last night on Remixta, both off The Sowl Files, and I was in good company I have to say… some killer tracks in the playlist. So y’all should check it out over at the site, here’s a direct link to the latest episode. Remixta is a podcast playing tracks made in the lovely music application Renoise, keep reading for some more info.
Here’s the about blurb off of there (which I shamelessly copied :)
Remixta is a monthly music podcast run by estonian DJ Suva and dedicated to playing music made with Renoise tracker. During the month, I collect all the new Renoise music from Renoise Forums, SoundCloud, Myspace and the tracks people send me directly. I choose the tracks I like the best and play them in 40 minute to 1h DJ set Live over IceCast. Everyone can tune in and listen the live show, and if they miss it, they can always relisten the podcast form of the show.
So.. the announcement was made after a long deliberation between the judges (Jonny Cuba, Audessey, Ollie Teeba, No Sleep Nigel and DJ Cro (that’s the UK DJ Cro, to avoid any confusion)). Yeah, so anyways, I came in third place, which means I’m one of the three winners of this little competition.. good stuff!
First place was snatched by Ashoke aka Boom Op, and second place by Ajuda (got no link for Ajuda.. sorry). Check the tunes in the player below!
As you might hear my tune is a little bit different here compared to the one I put up a couple of weeks ago, nothing major tho… and of course check Soundsci (buy the album.. it’s great!), Crate Escape Records & DJ Cro’s blog. Cheers!
This is a collection of ghosts from the Sowl period (2005-2007). Sowl consisted of me and Sol (who is now one half of Noisebud), and we made electronica (sometimes quite experimental) in all it’s incarnations.
Click the pic, here or the download link on the player above to head over to my bandcamp page (might put it up on Soundcloud as well, but it’s hella slow at the moment) where you can download the whole thing for free. Feel free to share it with your friends!
I’ve had these tracks (and many more) just sitting on my harddrive without knowing what to do with them, so I finally decided to pick out a few and just throw em out there… They’re not doing anyone any good hidden away here.
I’ve not done any extra mixing or arranging on em, I decided to leave em as they were, for good or bad. This doesn’t mean they’re bad or in bad quality tho, just saying. Anyway, if someone really fancies one of the tracks I could of course fix it up a little, but at this point it’s not gonna happen. The exception are the two bonus tracks, which are pretty decently mixed and arranged (featuring Sol aka Sunflake on vocals).
Some of these have been uploaded on a couple sites under my other alias, Kvartersakuten, but since most know me as magOwl I figured I’d just put this out under that name. Plus that was the name I went under in Sowl.. so there you have it.
There’s a varied mix of styles on here, breakcore, lo-fi, old jungle ish, electronica, glitch, dubstep, techno and so on (no Hip-Hop tho, sorry kids, I’ll get that going later on this winter/spring). So hopefully there’s a little something something for everyone.
Ok, it’s official, the new Atari Blitzkrieg album 12.31.99 is out and about causing a ruckus. If you pick it up now you’ll get the EP called 12.30.99 for free, offer expires tomorrow. So where to get it? Ataris site is a good place to start.
The EP takes place a day before 12.31.99, coming in at 14 tracks it’s more of an LP I guess.. anywho, with tracks produced by Jazz Spastiks, Krohme, Cadence, Moka Only, Nick Wiz, MackeralSalad, DJ A.I., Blockhead & Digital Fiend, and with all sale revenue going to charity (for both the EP and the main album) it could be a nice buy I think. You can pick it up separately right here, if you wish.
Ok on to the main album..
The 2nd full-length from Atari Blitzkrieg, 12.31.99, takes place both sonically and spiritually on New Years Eve, 1999, all the beats have that flavour and were either made back then or made to sound a bit like it did back then.. good stuff. I got one beat on there, which was made in ‘98 I think, have to check to be sure. It’s a split track with the other half produced by Damian Calculon. Other producers on there include Krohme, Nick Wiz, Psycho Les, Bronze Nazareth and others, with guest appearances by L.I.F.E. Long, Lil Dap, Vast Aire, Breez Evahflowin, C-Rayz Walz and more.
I haven’t heard the whole thing yet, so I can’t really comment on it, but from what I have heard, it’s sounding good!
As mentioned you can grab it off Ataris site at a reduced price at the moment, but it will be available over at Amazon, iTunes and what have you, shortly. Oh.. and if you wanna preview it, Atari has a sampler up right here. Not sure if I should direct link it so I won’t, but it’s right there on that page.
So.. I hope y’all had a good Yule & New Years.. speak to you soon! Easy.
In the post below you’ll find the tune and links for it, download is available via my Soundcloud page. And again make sure to check out Liqs bandcamp page for more good music. My man Bluevibe also wrote a little something something about it so head over to him and check that and his tunes out.. good stuff folks!
So.. here we go, my remix of St Liqour-Ish’s futuristic g-funk tune Money$ack is up and available, might even make it downloadable in a little while, just need to check a few things first.
Some electronic vibes with a twist, for those of you who know me that shouldn’t come as any surprise. So check it out right here, or peep all the tunes over at Soundcloud and make sure you hit up St Liqour-Ish’s bandcamp page for some extra goodies (remix will appear there shortly as well).
And again big up to my man Bluevibe for hooking me up.
Thought I’d share a pic of the lab in it’s current state, still need to pick up some things, like a decent pair of monitors (active speakers) for instance. I’m also looking at an MPC or maybe the Korg MicroSampler (peep the vid), which was announced a couple of days ago. There’s some other things that I need as well, but some monitors are at the top of the list at the moment. Alright onto the pic.. have a good Sunday folks.
Time for another recommendation.. this time we got The Lick by St Liquor-ish aka Jellphonic. Personal fav off the EP has to be Moneysack (2nd tune in the player) which is the tune I remixed as well. P-Funk for the 21st century baby!
After 13 long years, 14 studios and a gazillion dollars the highly anticipated first EP from St Liquor-ish, formerly and simultaneously Jellphonic, is ripe.
The first solo EP – “The Lick” smashes jagged beats with sacred subjects such as sex and hating with subtle undertones of grace and pornography. Collaborations for the EP include the smooth vocals of Lisa Preston on “The Junk” and the Electron Don, Zackey Force Funk on “Money Sack”.
I got a couple of instrumental projects in the making, not going to give away too much detail, but one of them revolves around making a 5-6 track EP through the evolution of one tune, and I’ll leave it at that.. enigmatic enough? Maybe not. I think they can turn out to be pretty interesting though, if they do I might consider pitching them to some labels.
I’m also going to try finish up another remix installment because some people have been asking me about it, and as I didn’t think my 2 Weeks 3 Hours project held up properly, it’s about time. I was also thinking about putting together a compilation of old beats spanning 1997 –2001, or around those years anyway. As I recently resurrected my old darling the Ensoniq EPS 16+ and converted all the old Atari arrangements to PC, all I could find at least. So I’ll check through them, pick out some decent ones and remix/re-master them. I’m not going to change the over all arrangements, at least nothing big, I just want to apply some compressors and proper EQ’s and so on, since I didn’t have any of that stuff back then.
Other then that I got an EP coming up with Atari Blitzkrieg (as mentioned before) and some other tunes which hopefully will come out during the fall, not going to jinx anything by spilling the beans, with my track record when it comes to failed releases, it wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do. I also made a remix of St-Liqour-Ish tune Moneysack, good looking out by my man Bluevibe who hooked me up. I don’t really know what’s going to happen with it as I had to leave for vacation right after I submitted it and I have yet to get in touch with them about it. So we will see.
And… as I got into division 1 of this years LouisDenLeague, I’ll need to step my game up since I’ll be going up against some truly talented cats over the months to come. Will be fun though, I need the challenge.
So that’s more or less it when it comes to the music bit, but I’ve also been thinking about some other things involving painting and photography.
I’m still in the planning process of figuring out a nice/interesting theme for a photo project, not really sure where I want to take it, or what I want to do with it at this point, but I’ll figure it out eventually. My old Nikon needs the workout, only been taking crappy pictures with a crappy digital camera lately and that’s not cutting it.
As for the painting business I have no idea of where to start, it’s been too long since I picked up the brush, but I’m sure that once I get some canvas up and get started it’ll fall into place. My painting process is fairly abstract, as are the paintings, I never really go in with a plan, I just let whatever it is that wants to come out flow, and as it progresses I’ll see where it’s going. Would be fun to have another exhibition, but it would require me to paint a lot of new ones because I only got maybe two or three old paintings left. So a long term project, or maybe a joint project with an old friend of mine could be the way to go, we’ve talked about it at least. That could be really interesting as we did some wild collaborative paintings back in the day. Maybe go for some big ass canvases and not just the regular meter, meter and a half ones.
