Introverse.. Intro

I kicked off a new project of mine the other day called Introverse. It will be a combined photography and music project, at a ratio of around 5 photos per beat; it will be an EP of ~8 songs. No deadline set yet, but I will set one once I’ve gotten the first couple of beats off the ground, that way I know how long it might take to get this thing done. The photography is already on the way and I got two of them more or less done at the moment which I’ll attach below. As for the theme of this thing.. well you’ll have to wait and see.. I divulge nothing!

magOwl – Page One

Update: The free downloads on bandcamp has run out, more will be available in a couple of weeks. Nothing I can do about it. So if you want any of the albums on there you’ll have to spend a few quid.

So December 21st has arrived and as promised here’s Page One, my latest collection of beats and oddities.

You can grab it for free over at magowl.bandcamp.com.

This is a selection of beats from the last year, year and a half, or so. Some are entries from the LouisDen beatbattles (www.louisden.com), so if you’re keeping tabs you might have heard a few. But on the other hand there are others on here that should be new to any and all.

The lot was produced by me, magOwl, using Renoise (www.renoise.com) aided by the old Ensoinq EPS 16+, the Boss SP-303 and a healthy amount of vinyl.

Go get it, listen, enjoy, tell a friend!

LouisDen League 2011

Yup it’s that time of year again, time for this years incarnation of the LouisDen League! Promised to be bigger, better & harder then ever before; man I’m looking forward to it!

So how do you participate you ask. Well, head over to the Louisden forum, sign up and then go to this post and read all about it. The short version is that you have to mail in your interest, dig out 10 songs for the sample pool & then participate in the “Dope Ass Beat” challenge to decide which division you will start out in.

So if you feel you can make one beat a week for around 12 weeks, go ahead and enter, it’s all good fun!

See you there…

Beat Feed Instrumentals – Episode 56

In this single producer showcase, we feature an exceptional artist who’s no stranger to the feed, the mighty MagOwl. I’ve had the pleasure of being involved with two projects with him so far, Breez Evahflowin‘s Unearthed Past release and just recently Breez’s As He Goes On LP, and hope to collab with him more in the near future. He’s also a graph artist, painter and photographer, but of course we’re featuring MagOwl the musician, so lets get into the tracks featured here. First up is the beat for a Blame One joint “The Illest ft. Anthony Rutkowski”. This is one of a couple songs off Blame’s new LP Endurance that was produced by MagOwl. Second is a track produced for Atari Blitzkrieg called “An Evening in Tokyo featuring Fuca Chan”. This cut is off Perfect Blue, a release from Atari dedicated to the influential anime director Satoshi Kon, who recently lost his battle with cancer. Closing out the episode is the beat for the song “Men Behind the Sun ft. Jak Progresso”. That’s off the Unusual Suspects release Unusuowl. A fitting name indeed. You know the science. Support MagOwl by purchasing music featuring his production. And help spread the word! Peace. Dirt E. Dutch – Beat Feed

Got one all to myself this time.. Big up Dutchman! Go check it out here.

Beat Feed Instrumentals – Episode 45

Here is another sub-heavy smash from the good homie MagOwl. It’s called “Voodoo Express”, and no matter how high you turn up this producer from Sweden, his sound stays consistantly sweet. Feeling MagOwl? Follow him on Twitter. Second up to bat is Humble Modesto, with the track “Won”, off his new release This Is For…, which is available now from End of Earth Records. Wrapping it up is Bronx native Lex Boogie, with the track “Buck Rogers”. That’s off his free instrumentals release called Lex in Space. The project is based on bending the gritty genre of Hip Hop production he is known for and blending it with cosmic twist and turns that could only be described as “Out of this world”. Use the links. Spread the word. Support these artists! Peace. – Dirt E. Dutch, Beat Feed

Renoise OHC’s

Here’s two slightly fixed up Renoise IRC chat OHC (One Hour Competition) tunes, both still very much not done, or mixed properly. First one is some form of breakbeat thing from the 2nd of March this year and the next is a swingy, dirty beat from the other night.

So what is an OHC, the name gives a way part of it, i.e. that you have an hour to make your tune. The other part is that you’re not allowed to use any VST(i)’s or any other sounds then the ones provided in a sample pack made for that specific OHC (and there’s usually not a whole heap of sounds & drums to choose from). So you have to be a little bit creative with what you have to work with, although not too creative; you only  have one hour to complete the tune. Then everybody listens to the entries together (all tunes are anonymous). After hearing all the tunes there’s a vote.. usually top 3 or 5, and a winner is crowned. What do you win you ask.. nothing but the admiration of your peers, but it’s not really about winning, it’s about having fun and pushing yourself. So if you own Renoise and wanna participate, head over to www.renoise.com and find the chat link (main page –> community –> chat).

Hope to see you there!
